Selection Process and Examination Pattern
The BMC Labourer Recruitment 2026 selection process is designed to assess candidates on multiple parameters including physical fitness, academic knowledge, and overall suitability for the position. The selection comprises the following stages:
Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
All eligible candidates will be called for Physical Efficiency Test which is qualifying in nature:
For Male Candidates:
- Walking Test: 1600 meters to be completed within 15 minutes
- Weight Lifting: Ability to lift 35 kg weight
- Physical Measurement: Height minimum 165 cm, Chest (unexpanded) 81 cm with minimum 5 cm expansion
For Female Candidates:
- Walking Test: 1000 meters to be completed within 20 minutes
- Weight Carrying: Ability to carry 20 kg weight
- Physical Measurement: Height minimum 157 cm
Relaxation in PET:
- SC/ST/OBC/DT-NT candidates: 5 cm relaxation in height
- PwBD candidates: Exempted from physical tests (as per disability type)
- Ex-servicemen: Exempted from physical tests
Candidates qualifying in PET will be eligible for the next stage. Medical fitness certificate will be checked during PET.
Stage 2: Written Examination
The written examination will be conducted in Marathi language only (except for language proficiency questions which may be in respective languages).

Examination Details:
- Type: Objective Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
- Mode: Online Computer Based Test (CBT) OR Offline OMR Based (to be decided)
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deduction for each wrong answer
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: 35% for General/EWS, 30% for Reserved categories
- Question Paper Language: Marathi
Syllabus Coverage:
General Knowledge: Indian History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Sports, Awards, Books & Authors, Important Days, Current National & International Events
General Marathi: Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Sentence Formation, Synonyms, Antonyms, Idioms & Phrases
Numerical Ability: Basic Arithmetic (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division), Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Simple & Compound Interest, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Time & Distance
Mumbai City Awareness: History of Mumbai, Important Landmarks, BMC Functions, Local Governance, Mumbai Transport, Culture & Heritage, Current Development Projects
Stage 3: Merit List Preparation
Final merit list will be prepared based on:
- Marks obtained in written examination (100%)
- Category-wise merit lists will be prepared separately
- In case of tie in marks, older candidate will be given preference
- If tie persists, candidate with higher marks in Marathi subject will be preferred
Stage 4: Document Verification & Medical Examination
Selected candidates based on merit will be called for document verification and medical examination. Original certificates will be verified and medical fitness will be assessed by BMC authorized medical officer.
